In the US, former President Donald Trump and the Colorado Republican Party have had three attempts to dismiss a lawsuit filed to keep him off the state’s 2024 presidential ballot due to the 14th Amendment’s /”insurrectionist ban./” The lawsuit, filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, claims that Trump is barred from holding public office in the future due to the 14th Amendment’s Section 3. The lawsuit also accuses Trump of encouraging his followers to assault the US Capitol in January 2021 to change the outcome. District Judge Sarah Wallace refused all requests to dismiss the case, citing innovative legal issues and an opinion by current Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. A trial will be held on October 30 to determine if Griswold has the authority to prevent Trump from appearing on the ballot. Other lawsuits have been filed nationwide challenging Trump’s eligibility to run for president in 2024 on the grounds of violating the insurrectionist restriction in the 14th Amendment.
